Although many individuals are unaware of it, HSAAP initiated a public fishing program eight years ago on the restricted section of the Holston River that runs through the installation. HSAAP typically hosts its fishing events in June and July each year. These events are catch and release events and fishermen are required to wade in order to fish...no boats are allowed. Sixteen participants are randomly drawn for each one-day event.
2017 Fishing Events. The installation will be hosting 3-4 fishing events in June and July 2017. If you are interested in applying for any of these events, please click on the following link to save/print an application: haapfishapplication17.pdf Applications must be RECEIVED by June 1, 2017 in order to be considered in the drawing for this year's events.
Special Note: The Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation (TDEC) on Monday, May 15, lifted a water contact advisory for the North Fork of the Holston River in Hawkins and Sullivan counties that went into effect on April 28 as a result of a sewer line break in Weber City, Virginia. The line was repaired on May 12, and no sewage is entering the river from that location any longer. According to TDEC which has conducted water sampling of the North Fork Holston River, results are back to pre-spill levels. Therefore, with the repair of the sewer line, and TDEC's lifting of the contact advisory, this issue should not impact HSAAP's planned fishing events.
